I’ve been involved with website creation and maintenance since January of 1998 when I accepted a new role as a technology resource teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools. At that time, much of the web design was done through basic HTML coding. I not only developed some knowledge of HTML, I also embraced learning how to image map to make an image with clickable hot spots (it was very exciting at the time!) I also took on leading professional development workshops for teachers and that started the web site journey.

My most recent website work is my most significant undertaking. As the Digital Outreach Coordinator for The Archaeological Conservancy, I was responsible for regular updates and improvements to the website. I managed the day-to-day operations of updating the site, troubleshooting and monitoring security. I also enhanced the site with new features such as an interactive timeline of the organization, improved SEO ratings, and monitored overall performance of the site. And just a few months after starting with the Conservancy I spearheaded a complete remodel of the website, collaborating with staff members on to develop content and working closely with Adam Hurd, owner of HalfPixel Website and Mobile Design, who helped with the overall design and intricate programming of the site. The majority of site management was accomplished through WordPress, though I do use HTML and some CSS as needed.

In addition to the main website, I was also responsible for the website portion of the Blackbaud NetCommunity presence which provides members with a secure login area. This website is used for periodic fundraising drives and connects directly to the RaisersEdge database, allowing members to make donations through the website.

Other WordPress experience

As a contract instructional designer I was contracted to work with Discovery Education. My responsibilities included posting weekly WordPress blog posts to the educator blog and to the student-facing blog. This involved researching and writing content, building graphics, editing images, optimizing SEO on posts, and scheduling publishing. I updated content for the static webpages as well. Discovery Education was bought by another company and went through a major overhaul of its website. Unfortunately, the work I did is no longer available for me to showcase.

Google Sites

Beyond Four Walls (2010-2011)
Website built from scratch in Original Google Sites. This web site (captured using the Way Back Machine!) included blog posts, discussion forum, embedded spreadsheet, custom graphics, and information for participants in the Beyond Four Walls MiniGrant.

Eldorado High School Band Boosters

I helped to plan the structure, build content, and managed the day-to-day operations of the website.

Content Writing and Webmaster

I have also managed website content and served as webmaster for several organizations. These sites were designed using proprietary web-hosting service to publish the shell of the website. My work on these sites was primarily content writing and publishing.
